Open Publishing Awards 2021: Vote Now!

Nominate your favorite open publishing projects, individuals and organizations for the Open Publishing Awards 2021…

The Open Publishing Awards brings the open publishing world together to celebrate progress, increase visibility, and reflect on the strategic benefits of openness. Coko provides the platform, but the event’s success is down to you: the open publishing community.

We need your thinking around the people, projects, and organizations showing genuine and often unheralded commitment to advancing openness in publishing. Who is breaking new ground in open source publishing software? What individuals and organizations are advancing tools, technologies, and thinking in open content? Which open models are improving the publishing ecosystem for researchers, authors, editors, and educators?

Coko Founder Adam Hyde says:

“The first awards launched in 2019 with modest expectations. We anticipated a few dozen high-quality nominations but received over 200. We were blown away by the response and thrilled with the publishing community’s willingness and enthusiasm to get behind the concept.

The Open Publishing Awards are back for 2021. Once again, we invite you to nominate the people, projects, content or orgs that are applying openness to publishing.”

Your nominations can include open publishing platforms, new publishing types, new workflows, innovative tech, repositories, collections, wiki projects, software of any type, curatorial management systems, peer-review systems, books, data, web projects, digital projects, paper projects, papyrus projects(!), pre-print platforms, publishers, tools, and much more. Need some inspiration? Check out the incredible depth, diversity and impactful ideas of the folks that received recognition in 2019.

We don’t like to impose arbitrary restrictions, so we only have one criterion: all nominated projects must use an open license. That one rule aside, you’re free to vote for individuals, individual works, collections, platforms, projects or organizations (or basically anything). You can even vote for yourself, your friends from the open publishing sphere, or people you simply admire. And you’re free to nominate as often as you like. Nominate early, nominate often, nominate here!
